"The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names."
-Chinese Proverb

"Natural talents underlie any job, role or career you undertake throughout your life. Yet this objective information about what you do easily and what is intrinsically difficult is almost unknown to the vast majority of people as they make critical decisions at career turning points."
-Don’t Waste Your Talent, by Bob McDonald, PH.D and Don E. Hutcheson

Although I had already chosen a major in speech and language pathology, working with Jean Ann helped to affirm my decision—especially as I approach six years in a particularly difficult program that many people leave because of the amount of work involved.  The fact that my career choice matches up so well with my abilities—high specialist and introvert with strong classification abilities and low idea productivity—explains why I’ve never been excited about going in any particular direction until I chose this field. I now feel even more confident as I continue on in a difficult program.  Jean Ann's insight and the Highlands test told me things about myself that I never really thought about before but now can see to be true. It helped me realize how the things I’ve always seen as negative—like low idea productivity and introversion—can work to my advantage and be positive.  I particularly appreciated the in-depth information given on my styles and abilities, as well as suggestions on how to use my abilities—not only in the work environment (in resumes, for example), but also in a classroom environment.  I have some completely clueless college friends that I really wish would give this a try!        ~Abigail Dickerson.; student, Marshall University

What's In It For You?

I will come along side and help you explore the rich inner landscape of who you are and show you how you might use your unique assets in work and life. Some of the coaching areas addressed may include:

  • Through actual work samples of your abilities, you will see how the pattern of your abilities provides a unique set of assets that can serve you well in your career and life.

  • You will learn highly personalized and powerful language for the job/college interview or job performance review.
  • You will identify your preferred work environment and strongest work roles.
  • You will understand how you make decisions, solve
    problems, and learn new information.
  • You will better understand your personal and interpersonal styles of communication, learning how to interact with "difficult people."

  • You will learn which of your abilities are so strong that to not have the opportunity to use them in your life can create a feelings of loss and frustration.
  • As you consider your present and past jobs, you will also see where you may be working out of a rich skill set, but perhaps not be capitalizing on your natural abilities.
  • You will identify and prioritize your work expectations so that you might evaluate your present or a possible job for areas of met and unmet needs.
  • You will see patterns in your capabilities that will help you compare yourself against various types of work. We can explore some of those for possible fit.

The End Result--A Personal Vision

If you commit to three months of individual coaching, you will harvest these and other insights from your family of origin, childhood play, natural abilities, interpersonal style and interests.

Through developing a series of visual "maps" you will learn to utilize these assets to create a Personal Vision that will optimize your career  choices, enable you to recognize and pursue attainable career goals and lead to a greater sense of personal and professional fulfillment.

Can you get there on your own?  Perhaps, but it will probably be a haphazard process, take a lot longer, and lack the accountability and objectivity factors that are necessary to create an honest assessment.

If not now, when?
